Hyundai Executives Visit Sanfu Shipbuilding and Sign Main Engine Cooperation Agreement

On April 15, 2025, a high-level delegation from Hyundai Heavy Industries’ engine division visited Sanfu Shipbuilding. The two parties held in-depth discussions on marine engine technology collaboration, market expansion, and green shipping industry development, culminating in the successful signing of a main engine supply agreement for a 14,000 DWT Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV). Key attendees included Kang Young, Representative Director of Hyundai Marine Machinery; Lyu Changlyel, Head of Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Engine Machinery Sales Division; and Sanfu Shipbuilding’s Chairman Yang Yifeng, Vice Presidents Zhu Xiang, Wang Deqing, and Hu Jie. This milestone marks a new phase in their partnership.

During the ceremony, Chairman Yang Yifeng of Sanfu Shipbuilding and Hyundai’s Kang Young formally signed the 14,000 DWT MPV main engine supply agreement. The agreement not only deepens their long-standing collaboration but also signifies a strategic step for Sanfu in advancing high-end marine propulsion systems. Yang stated, “Hyundai is a global leader in marine power solutions. The introduction of this 14,000 DWT MPV main engine will enhance the performance and environmental standards of our vessels, enabling us to deliver more competitive green shipping solutions to clients.”

Kang Young expressed gratitude for Sanfu’s trust, emphasizing, “This agreement is both a commercial milestone and a joint effort to address the global shipping industry’s low-carbon transition. Hyundai will ensure the cutting-edge technology, reliability, and eco-friendliness of our products to robustly support Sanfu’s sustainable development.”

The Hyundai delegation also toured Sanfu’s production workshops and outfitting docks, praising the company’s lean management practices and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Both sides agreed to leverage this partnership to establish closer technical and market coordination mechanisms, jointly developing efficient, eco-friendly power solutions that meet future regulatory demands.

The signing ceremony underscores the elevated collaboration between Sanfu Shipbuilding and Hyundai. Moving forward, the two parties will combine their strengths to deepen cooperation in green propulsion technologies (e.g., LNG/methanol/ammonia fuels) and smart operational systems, jointly driving sustainable development in the global maritime industry.
